The latest update on Iowa’s labor market showed that in June 2025, the state’s unemployment rate was 3.7%. During the same period, more than 3,900 Iowans joined the Labor Force and increased Iowa’s labor force Participation Rate to 67.4%. ?? Iowa has always been a major supporter of Registered Apprenticeship, but that commitment expanded last year when the state assumed responsibility over all apprenticeship programs in Iowa. Changes are coming to the amount of Unemployment Insurance (UI) taxes that employers pay in Iowa due to a new law signed by Governor Reynolds. Iowa employers pay UI taxes based on the taxable wage base, which is based on the average annual wage from the prior year. In Calendar Year (CY) 2026, the taxable wage base for employers will be $20,400, down from $39,500 in CY 2025. Maximum benefits will also increase. These new changes will start July 6, 2025.
